Pico is a ginger-haired young man who wields a gun and a microphone, and he is also a mascot for Newgrounds, a website that hosts user-generated content such as games, films, audio, and artwork. He has appeared in many flash games created by Tom Fulp, the founder of Newgrounds, and he has also made his way into FNF as an antagonist and a supporter.

In this article, we will explore who Pico is, where he came from, what he does in FNF, and what his future holds. Let's get started!

FNF is a music and rhythm game that was released on October 5, 2020, and was created on the occasion of the Ludum Dare 47 game jam, a game development competition hosted by Newgrounds. The game features a story mode in which you play as Boyfriend, a blue-haired rapper who has to win rap battles against various opponents over the course of seven weeks, in order to date his girlfriend, Girlfriend. The game also has a freeplay mode that allows you to play any song individually.

Pico is one of the opponents that Boyfriend has to face in FNF. He is the antagonist of Week 3, titled "Pico", which was released on December 11, 2020. He challenges Boyfriend to three songs: "Pico", "Philly", and "Blammed". He also appears as a supporting character in Week 7, titled "Tankman", which was released on April 18, 2021. He helps Boyfriend against Tankman, the leader of an army that invades Newgrounds.

Pico is not only a character in FNF, but also a mascot for Newgrounds. He has been featured in many flash games created by Tom Fulp, the founder of Newgrounds, and he has become one of the most iconic and beloved characters on the website. He has also inspired many fan-made mods, animations, artworks, and songs based on him.

Pico's Origin

Pico was created by Tom Fulp in 1999, when he was still a student at Drexel University. He was inspired by the Colum bine massacre, a school shooting that occurred on April 20, 1999, in Colorado, USA. He wanted to create a game that would parody the media's portrayal of the shooters as "cool" and "badass". He named the character Pico, which is Spanish for "small", as a contrast to his violent nature.

The first game that featured Pico was Pico's School, which was released on April 30, 1999, on Newgrounds. The game is a point-and-click adventure that follows Pico as he tries to escape from his school, which has been taken over by a group of goths who are planning to kill everyone. The game is filled with dark humor, violence, and references to pop culture. The game also introduces Pico's friends: Nene, a girl who has a crush on Pico and suffers from various ailments; and Darnell, a black kid who loves explosives and fire.

After the success of Pico's School, Tom Fulp created more games that feature Pico and his adventures. Some of these games are: Pico vs. Bear, which is a fighting game where Pico battles a giant bear; Pico vs. Uberkids, which is a collection of mini-games where Pico competes against a group of nerdy kids; Pico Sim Date, which is a dating simulation game where Pico tries to woo Nene; and Pico's Cousin 2, which is a platformer game where Pico helps his cousin from the future.

Pico's design and personality evolved over time, as Tom Fulp experimented with different styles and genres. Pico started as a simple stick figure with red hair and a green shirt, but later gained more details and expressions. He also became more confident and charismatic, as well as more skilled in combat and music. He is often portrayed as a rebellious and adventurous hero, who is loyal to his friends and willing to fight for what he believes in.

Pico's Appearance in FNF

Pico made his debut in FNF as the antagonist of Week 3, titled "Pico". He was teased by the developers on December 4, 2020, with a tweet that showed his silhouette and the caption "next week". He was officially added to the game on December 11, 2020, with an update that also included new songs, backgrounds, and mechanics.

In Week 3, Pico challenges Boyfriend to three songs: "Pico", "Philly", and "Blammed". He appears in a school hallway, holding a gun and a microphone. He seems to have a grudge against Boyfriend, as he insults him and threatens to kill him. He also seems to have some history with Girlfriend, as he calls her his "ex-girlfriend" and implies that they had a relationship in the past.

Pico's songs are fast-paced and intense, requiring the player to match his rapid-fire vocals and gunshots. His songs also have different difficulties depending on the mode: in easy mode, he only uses two keys; in normal mode, he uses three keys; and in hard mode, he uses four keys. His songs are considered some of the hardest in the game, especially "Blammed", which has many tricky patterns and notes.

Pico also appears as a supporting character in Week 7, titled "Tankman". He was added to the game on April 18, 2021, along with Tankman, the leader of an army that invades Newgrounds. He helps Boyfriend against Tankman by shooting at him and distracting him. He also appears in the background of the third song, "Ugh", where he joins Boyfriend and Girlfriend on top of a tank.

Pico's Future in FNF

Pico will be a playable character in the upcoming level against Darnell, his friend from the Pico series. This was confirmed by Tom Fulp on May 1, 2021, on Twitter. He also shared some screenshots of the level, which shows Pico and Darnell in a classroom setting.

The level will feature three songs: "Darnell's Theme", "Nerd Alert", and "Piconjo". The first song is based on Darnell's theme song from the Pico series; the second song is based on the Uberkids' theme song from Pico vs. Uberkids; and the third song is based on Piconjo's theme song from Piconjo Besitzen Sie Piconjo, a parody of Pico. The level will also have a cutscene that reveals more about Pico and Darnell's relationship and backstory.

The level will also allow the player to select Pico as a general playable character in Freeplay mode, along with Boyfriend and Girlfriend. This means that the player will be able to play any song in the game as Pico, and see his animations and expressions. The player will also be able to customize Pico's appearance, such as his hair color, shirt color, and microphone color.

Pico's level is expected to be released in late 2021 or early 2022, as part of the full release of FNF on various platforms, such as Steam, iOS, and Android. The developers have also hinted that there might be more surprises and features for Pico in the future, such as new songs, mods, and collaborations.

Pico is a fascinating character who has a long and rich history in Newgrounds and FNF. He is a rebellious and adventurous hero who wields a gun and a microphone, and he has appeared in many flash games created by Tom Fulp. He is also a mascot for Newgrounds and a fan-favorite character in FNF. He has challenged Boyfriend in Week 3, helped him in Week 7, and will soon be playable in his own level against Darnell.
